Yep. It’s stew weather. In my opinion, you can’t make a good hearty stew without a good hearty stout. In this instance, I used one of my favorite beers, Founders Breakfast Stout – a beer full of rich chocolate and coffee flavors. Since I was already going with the chocolate theme, I figured let’s go all out and add in even more chocolate!
Ingredients
- 1 12oz bottle Founders Breakfast Stout
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups of beef broth
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 cups of baby carrots
- 1 yellow onion
- half bag of frozen peas
- container of baby yukon gold potatoes
- container of baby bella mushrooms
- 2 lbs of stew meat
- 2 cups of flour
- salt and pepper to taste
Step 1
Coat the meat in the flour, saute in saucepan with olive oil until browned.
Step 2
Add browned meat, veggies except peas, and all other ingredients to a crock pot/slow cooker. Cook on high for around 9 hours.
Step 3
Stir throughout the day. About an hour before serving add the peas.
Step 4
Enjoy! Tastes great with beer bread.
