My love for craft beer has resulted in a large and ever expanding growler collection. It’s quite fun to bring home a nice brown jug filled with a tasty beverage. The hard part is when the liquid is gone and the funk starts to set in. It’s common and doesn’t take much to get a nice batch of mold growing on the inside of your jug. The issue is, that even after a wash, the inside of the growler can stay wet, providing a breeding ground for bacteria.

Growler Collar

A few weeks ago, I received a couple Growler Collars in the mail from an entrepreneur, Staton Lorenz,  from Traverse City, Michigan. He claimed to have the perfect solution to the growler mold issue. Staton came up with the idea for the Growler Collar, a simple circular system with a hole in the middle, perfect for standing your growler upside down for the purpose of drying out the jug.

I tested the collar out on a recently finished jug from Shorts Brewing Company. It worked great, and it was fun to display on my counter as well. There are several collar designs available, and you can also get your own custom graphics printed on them. I was pleased to see the Right Brain Brewery in Traverse City using the collars when I was up for a visit last weekend. They seemed to be enjoying the collars, and they were customized with the Right Brain logo.
